Some Tips for Your Christmas Merchandising


Setting up and arranging your Christmas displays does not mean one size fits all.  You might have something in mind that will work best for your store layout and what merchandise works best where. 

There are many ways to display your holiday items but here are a few ideas to get you started.  

You Should Customise Your Holiday Displays:

Merchandise products that are meant to be purchased together should be kept together in your store.  Consider which products complement each other and could go as a set, display them together and even promote them together in a special offer. Once the Christmas holiday has ended, if you still have some remaining Christmas themes items, group them together to give the display a more complete appearance.

Create an Engaging Appeal for Your Merchandise Groups:

Similar to supermarkets, grouping one of the same product is important for store navigation and convenience.  For example, if you have items that are all related to drinking tea or coffee, keep these items together. Customers will appreciate the convenience to get everything from one place such as brewing devices, cream servers, etc.  Alternatively, display your merchandise using colour groups.  We recommend using 3-tiered merchandising tables to promote product groups.

Start from The Front of Your Store, Near the Door:

You want to attract customers to your displays from the moment they walk past your store and in the door.  Start your displays near your front door and make sure you have the newest and most expensive items center stage to draw immediate attention.
We suggest displaying your items by height to provide product hierarchy and so customers can easily pick up various items without knocking everything over.  Also, make sure you have plenty of products on display for customers to check out. This can be achieved by arranging modular plinths near the entrance to your store.

Create Good Lighting:

It's really important that your displays offer good lighting.  Just make sure you adjust the overhead lighting to enhance your merchandise.  If you have displays that do not have their own lighting and are dark, you should consider moving the displays to an existing light source or provide lighting from below with a spot light.  Lighting is extremely important in order for your items to stand out and draw customers to them. For valuable or delicate items, we recommend using glass display showcases with in-built lighting.

Add Simple Signs:

You need to add signs that are worded well and easy to read.  You want your signs to be short and to the point.  If you have senior customers, make sure the font is large enough for them to easily read. Choose from wall-mounted, floor standing or ceiling mounted signage for easy viewing.

Move Your Displays Around:

When new items start arriving, start moving your displays around. New items will continually sell so take the display that is nearest your door and move it to the center of your store and the newest arrivals near the front.  Items in the middle of the store can be moved to the back.  You should start relocating items every two weeks after their initial arrival, allowing customers to see something different. To make this process quick and easy, we recommend using our floor standing slatwalls with wheels.

Keep on Top of Your Inventory:

You must keep an eye on your merchandise and if the level for popular items starts to drop, make sure you order replacements immediately.  If a particular item has sold out then start changing your displays around replacing the sold-out items with items you have plenty of.  If something just isn't selling, then change the locations again. There are many apps available to track your inventory. Using an iPad can help check your stock levels conveniently.

Don't Forget to Add Your Price Tags:

Customers do not want to run down an employee or you to find out what a particular item costs. Make sure all items have their price tags in full sight. Here are our recommended price tags and signs.
